Doctor Juan Aguirre

Doctor Juan Aguirre attended, from the very beginning, the meetings held at «La Ballena Alegre» for reading and discussing the letters, mailings and «performances» of «SALIANO». When the UMMO letters began to arrive, his interest centred on this subject, and when, at the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, the group was reorganised with the founding of ERIDANI, the disaffection of some of the former members of the «La Ballena Alegre» circle and the arrival of newcomers, he resolutely joined the new group. He always contributed actively to the life of the group, and at the end of the 1970s and during the wave of the 1980s he received several letters.

Doctor Aguirre always considered it a petty attitude to keep those letters, which he judged to be of great value, for an inner circle of recipients. So, despite the warnings not to disclose the texts (faint and contradictory warnings, since sometimes they advised against disclosure and at other times almost encouraged it), he decided that his commitment was to his fellow men and not to some supposed ETs.

Most of the letters received were read in public and then jealously kept by their recipients, which made it very difficult for Doctor Aguirre to obtain a copy. Having found how hard it was to be lent the original letters to type them out, he often decided to attend the readings with a tape recorder and then type up what he had recorded. This arduous task took him countless hours.

With this whole typed dossier he decided to make all the material he had gathered available to the public free of charge, since he thought it unseemly to make a personal profit from letters which, for him, belonged to all humanity. He then ordered and systematised the texts and took them to a copy shop (Reprografía Santos, in Calle General Margallo, Madrid). He agreed with the copy shop that it would keep the texts on deposit and photocopy and bind them for anyone who asked, with no profit (for the shop) beyond the cost of photocopying, paper and binding. From then on Juan Aguirre kept out of the matter, although now and then he has called at the copy shop to see how demand for the texts has evolved. He thus knows that the texts have sold in waves and that, besides several hundred or thousand copies in Spain, copies have also been requested from surprising places all over the world.

Here we present the three volumes (they do not include the wave of letters of the 1980s) just as their author conceived them. The volumes are in Spanish and only cover the letters up to about 1976. All the letters they contain are also on this site, most of them translated into English, in the index of letters or in Other texts.
